Septic Installation in Comal County, TX

Comal County is home for us. Our yard is on FM 2722 outside New Braunfels, and we have installed septic systems across the county since 1995.

A County Built on Septic

Outside the sewer service areas of its cities, most of Comal County depends on on-site septic systems. That includes the lake communities around Canyon Lake, the acreage and subdivisions around Bulverde and Spring Branch, and the rural land west and north of New Braunfels. The county has grown steadily, and nearly every new home outside town needs a septic system designed for its particular lot.

Conditions vary across the county, but the common thread is rock. Much of western Comal County is shallow soil over limestone, often on slopes and among mature oaks. Those sites usually call for an aerobic system with spray or drip distribution. Where deeper soil allows, a conventional system remains an option.

Communities We Serve in Comal County

  • Canyon Lake, where hillside lots and lake setbacks shape the design
  • New Braunfels, for properties beyond city sewer service
  • Bulverde, with its acreage, new subdivisions and live oaks
  • Spring Branch, where limestone and steep lots are the norm

Comal County Septic Permits

Septic permits in Comal County are issued by the Environmental Health office, part of the Comal County Engineer’s Office in New Braunfels. The office reviews each design, issues the permit and inspects the installation. Systems that require ongoing maintenance, such as aerobic systems, also need a maintenance contract and a recorded affidavit before the county will license them to operate.

Texas requires the site evaluation to be performed by a licensed site evaluator and each design to be prepared by a registered sanitarian or professional engineer. We work closely with an engineer we have a great relationship with and will put you in contact with them through our septic design and engineer referral service. The engineer handles the evaluation and design and guides you through the process. If you already have a design, we can price and install from it. We then install the system under our TCEQ OSSF installer license OS0031132, coordinate the county inspections and finish the site. Our Comal County permit guide walks through the process step by step.

The Edwards Aquifer

Much of Comal County lies over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone or its contributing zone, and the county’s septic application asks which applies to each property. Where a lot falls in one of these zones, the design may need to comply with a plan approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the septic permit can depend on that approval. We identify the zone early in the project so these requirements do not surprise you later in the schedule.

Homes, Builders and Commercial Sites

We work with homeowners replacing a failed system, with builders who need new construction septic on a schedule, and with owners of commercial properties that need larger systems such as multi-tank aerobic units and extensive drip fields. We also do the excavation and site work that goes with a new build.

Because we are based in the county, most Comal County properties are a short drive from our yard. When you call, you speak with Dennis Varhol, and we visit the site ourselves before preparing a written quote. We do not pump tanks; our work is installation, repair and replacement.
